Odumakin drags APC, three others to court, demands N1.16billion

Yinka Odumakin, the spokesperson for the Afenifere Renewal Group, ARG, has filed a N1.16 billion libel suit against the Lagos State publicity secretary of All Progressive Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe and three others before a Lagos High Court.

Joined as co-respondents in the suit are the All Progressive Party, APC, a media consultant who resides in Switzerland, Mallami Adekunle Kayode, Today digital News & Media Limited.

The claimant in a motion exparte alleged that defendant published sometimes in October 2015 a statement titled “Biafra Truth To Be Told”.

Odumakin claimed that the said publication is defamatory as it is directed on his person and that it was intended to damage his reputation and integrity.

To this end, he is praying the court to grant an order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their agents, privies from further publishing.

He is also praying the court for an order of court to direct the defendant to pay him “N1 billion for special, exemplary and aggravated damages.

The claimant is also asking for a sum of N15million against defendant for being solicitor’s fee incurred by the claimant and the sum of N1million against each defendant as cost of action.”

Part of the alleged publication read that ” Biafra Truth to Be told: Yinka Odumakin, Iyiola Omisore,Olu Falae etc are miserable election losers. They are yet to come to terms with this crushing defeat. Look at Chief Olu Falae telling the whole world that there would have been civil war if the kidnappers had killed him.

MKO Abiola, Rewane, Omotosho Onagoruwa all died in the day of locust and Yoruba did not go to war. Ndi ala… Ndi nzuzu.

“When they fail in national politics they go back to play ethnic politics and they resort to blackmail, primordial sentiments, ethnic and subterfuge. Oro pe si je!!”

When the matter came up before Justice Kudirat Jose on Wednesday for mention, she adjourn hearing till April 4,2016.
