Robber dies in gun battle with police in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT—ONE member of a robbery gang was shot dead, Wednesday night, during an exchange of fire between the gang and police in New GRA part of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

A statement from the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Muhammad, said the robbers were fleeing after raiding a new generation bank on Obagi Road, GRA, when police went after them.

It was reported that in the ensuing gun battle, one of the robbers sustained gunshot injuries and was abandoned by his gang members.

Muhammad said during interrogation, “before the robber gave up the ghost, he gave his name as Jude Ihediachi of Ugwu Chuku, Aniocha South Local Government Area, Delta State.

While adding that the robbers carted away undisclosed sum at the new generation bank, DSP Muhammad said they also arrested two heavily-armed robbers.

He said two locally-made revolver pistols and two rounds of .9mm live ammunition were among items recovered from them.
