GOC solicits public support in curbing bombing

By Marie-Therese Nanlong, Jos

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3rd Armoured Division, Rukuba, Plateau State, Brigadier-General Mohammed Aliyu has said that synergy between the military and the general public would serve as a panacea for curbing the incessant suicide bombing bedeviling the country.

The GOC who resumed duty at the 3 Division recently, stated this at the Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Rukuba while interacting with journalists at a media parley to intimate them on the vision he has for the Division.

Besides the plan to renovate the barrack and make it habitable for the officers and men, he also called on journalists and other members of the public to partner effectively with the security agents by volunteering information about suspicious people to relevant security agencies for prompt action to be taken.

He maintained that inasmuch as the Nigeria Army was winning the war against the insurgents, suicide bombing which was one of the methods use by the terrorists may continue, unless the general public took necessary precaution by being vigilant in fishing out suspected persons with suspicious movement and questionable character among them.

His words: “Terrorism the world over is the same; the terrorists without any cogent reason engage in destruction of lives and property. You would also agree with me that in the Middle-East, they are still battling with suicide bombing. I am calling on the general public to be watchful at all times in order to fish out these hoodlums.

“Nigeria Army is winning the war against the insurgents with over 90% but I am calling for the cooperation of the media for the sustenance of this milestone achievement.”
