Lagos State Government yesterday sealed buildings in Richmond Estate and a shopping mall in Lekki axis of the state, for contravening the State construction law.
Also, over 15 buildings within Chevron Estate, Dr. Chimezie Street and others in Eti-Osa Local Government were sealed for various offences.
Some of the offences include failure to obtain planning permit, non-conformity with approved plan, failure to observe adequate metres for the setback, illegal conversion of the building and other distressed buildings.
Speaking with Vanguard after sealing buildings in Richmond Estate, General Manager of LASBCA, Mr Olusola Adeigbe, an engineer, said; “When we arrived, they claimed that they have approvals but we cannot site them. And the procedure stated that all documents must be available on site.
“So we have to seal the buildings. Our aim of going moving on the streets is to identify property that are contravening the construction law of the state and seal them.
“After sealing the structure, we ask the owner to obtain the necessary approvals. It is until they have complied that we can unlock the building for construction work to continue.
“Through this, we believe that we could stem the increasing tide of collapsed building,” he added.
Head of enforcement of Lagos State Material Testing Laboratory, LSMTL, Mr. Adeoye Adeshola, added that the exercise was not to witch-hunt but to save the state from embarrassment.
