DUTSE—Thirteen girls, aged between nine and 12 years, travelling for a wedding ceremony in Jigawa State, lost their lives between Tsuburi Darai and Gilma villages in Jahun Local Government Area of the state when their boats capsized.
Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, Yusuf Babura, said rescue work is still ongoing as the agency has been able to recover 12 bodies so far.
Sani Babura said the girls boarded two boats from Tsuburi Darai village to Gilma to attend wedding.
The police spokesman in the state, DSP Abdul Jinjiri, also confirming the incident, said seven died on the spot while rescuers are still looking for other dead bodies in the river.
