‘Queen of the Creeks Pageant to impact positively on Niger Delta women’

By PRISCA SAM-DURU

In search of an end to the teeming challenges undermining the Niger Delta Region of the country especially with regard to youth restiveness and environmental degradation, Lashmove Entertainment and Productions is packaging a beauty pageant show which comes up in February 2016.

Tagged Queen of the Creeks Beauty Pageant and Fashion show, the pageantry to be held at the King David Plaza, Ebony road, Rumuola Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is a cultural and educational event that seeks to celebrate the talents as well as intellectual abilities of the young women of the Niger Delta Region. The beauty show aims to engage the youths positively for development of the region.

Speaking ahead of the show, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Lashmove Entertainment and Productions, Kuejubola Ovie disclosed that the beauty pageant is designed to provide a positive space to celebrate the region’s dynamic and rich cultural heritage in addition to focusing on raising awareness on social issues affecting the people  particularly, issues of environmental degradation and youth restiveness.

According to Ovie, “The beauty event seeks to bring out the best of the young pageant hopefuls such as their goals, self confidence, talents, commitment to public service as well as drive for success. We discovered that there is a gap in pageantry. So many of them are focused on prizes and if the winner has no pet project, it dies like that. So we came up with Queen of the Creeks pageantry to let people know that there are women passionate about helping to solve the challenges of Niger Delta. This is meant to help the creeks. As you may know, there’s no access to education in most areas, no pipe-borne water and the areas are polluted.”

To actualize the aims, he disclosed that for starters, funds raised from ticket sales will be channeled into pet projects of the winners. And also that all governors of the Niger Delta as well as Ministry of Niger Delta have been drafted to be part of the show.

Asked what makes Queen of the Creeks unique, Ovie explained that the pageant is not about physical attributes or exposures of the female contours but a platform for people to excel and prove to Nigerians as well as outsiders that something good exists in the region. “We are here to tell the world that Niger Delta is not about militancy or other forms of youth restiveness, but endowed with a labour force that is yearning to impart positively to the region and country in general,” he said.

Those eligible to participate are young girls between 18 and 27 years of age who are indigenes of Niger Delta or non indigenes who may have been born or bred in the region or better still, spent years in the region. We are taking the awareness to all tertiary institutions in Niger Delta. It is important that we involve every youth in the region because whenever there’s a fracas, the youths are usually employed besides, we want to make a change. We are creating platforms for people to excel,” Ovie stated.

He further called on corporate bodies, the government at both federal and state levels as well as good spirited individuals, to support the pageant to enable it achieve its set objectives.

The winner of the pageant will be crowned Queen of the Creeks International and will be rewarded with a Mercedez Benz A190 Saloon car, cash prize of 200,000 naira and an all expense paid trip to the UK to participate in a top UK fashion show, courtesy of Noble People International Magazine, UK. While 1st Runner up is crowned Queen of the Creeks, Nigeria, she gets a cash reward of N150,000, the 2nd runner up is crowned Queen of the Creeks Super Model and receives N100,000 cash reward.

The Queen of the Creeks Pageant is organised by Lashmove Entertainment and Promotions in partnership with Renege TV, bluescreen Productions Ebikoro Makeovaz, Jays Signignatures Apparels, 411 Entertainment, Latouche Studios, Studio 55 Pro and Smash TV.
