Cross River renews bid to host Sports Festival

THE Cross River State government has renewed its resolve to host the twice postponed National Sports Festival originally slated for 2014.
The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Asu Okang gave this assurance on Monday while leading a three- man State delegation on a courtesy visit to the Minister of Youth and Sports Solomon Dalung in Abuja.

Okang also assured the Minister that facilities for a successful sports festival were being put in place while the old ones were being upgraded. He urged the Minister to pay a working visit to the State to see the level of preparation for himself. Responding, the Minister assured the delegation of his support for Cross River State to host the National Sports Festival.

“The hosting right given to the State is still Intact and having received this new commitment from the State Government; i will personally report this development at the next meeting of the Nigerian Executive Sports Committee which will be meeting soon”.

A statement by the Media Aide to the Minister, Mrs. Nneka Ikem Anibeze, said the National Sports Festival was originally billed to hold in 2014 but funding was identified as a major problem that had stalled the event.
