Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, yesterday, took a swipe at President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade, alledging that it was targeted mostly at former President Goodluck Jonathan’s kinsmen who served in his administration.
IYC noted that the ploy was orchestrated to smear Jonathan’s image and undermine his achievements before Nigerians and the international community.
The trio of Eric Omare, IYC spokesman, Mr. Razak Amatoru, National Deputy President IYC and Mr. Atigbi Freedom, Chairman, IYC, Western Zone, who addressed newsmen in Effurun, Delta State, noted with disdain, the disregard for the rule of law enshrined in the 1999 constitution, noting that the Federal Government was persecuting the anti-corruption crusade violating the inalienable rights of Mr Patrick Akpobulokami, former MD Nigeria Maritime safety and Administration Agency, NIMASA, and others through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.
They reiterated IYC’s stance on the support of the prosecution of alleged treasury looters, cautioning that while carrying out investigations and arrests, the rule of law should be adhered to.
They called on the EFCC and the Federal Government to respect on-going cases between Tompolo and EFCC in court.
They warned that President Buhari should not jeopardised the efforts of late president Musa Yar’Adua and his immediate predecessor in bringing peace to the Niger Delta by provoking youths of the region to resort to lawlessness.
