Jos – Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau on Friday said the doors of the State Government gates were open to the sports ambassadors of the state and all Plateau citizens in diaspora.

Lalong said this when he received Super Eagles Assistant Captain, Ogenyi Onazi, on a Christmas visit.

He said that his administration was willing and ready to welcome any of them to come home and contribute their quota for good of the state.

“For our sportsmen who are in diaspora and all of you who are in diaspora that have contributed to the growth of Plateau should come back to Plateau.

“We are inviting all Plateau people in diaspora to come back home and let us work together to develop Plateau,’’ he urged.

The governor congratulated Onazi, whose birthday is also on December 25, same as Christmas for his birthday.

He also congratulated him for attaining the height in his career as a footballer.

“The dream of every footballer is to represent your country and after you represent your country you become an ambassador outside and when you are ambassador, your country looks up to you,’’ he said.

The governor said that the state was proud of Onazi as reports indicated that he was doing Plateau where started and Nigeria in general proud through his exemplary conduct.

He said that the influx of foreign based Nigerians to Jos was an indication peace has returned to the state and urged them to spread the message of peace to people outside Nigeria.

“Your colleague was here, the Super Eagles Captain, Ahmed Musa, again you are here; we are looking up to the next person, Mikel Obi, so that when he comes we will have a full team.

“You will go and preach peace to the whole world that peace has returned to Plateau and we are committed to sustaining the peace,’’ he added.

Lalong told Onazi to use the period of his holidays to encourage younger footballers to play professional football.

He said that the government was willing to support him or any other star that will assist the younger ones to grow in the game.

Earlier, Onazi said that he was in the state to felicitate with the governor on Christmas and his birthday.

The Lazio of Italy midfielder pledged to assist the state government in anyway possible to restore peace in the state.

He expressed confidence in the ability of Lalong to restore permanent peace in the state as it used to be in the time past.

“During my brief interaction with you, I am convinced that you have the capacity to transform the state which has suffered a lot of problems,’’ he noted.
