Ugwuanyi’s wife vows to introduce free health screening initiative in 17 LGAs

ENUGU—DETERMINED to  improve health care service delivery in 17 Local Government Areas in Enugu State,wife of the Governor,Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi has assured women and children in the state of a replication of President Muhammad Buhari’s wife,Aisha’s free health screening initiative programme across the council areas to bring primary health care services closer to their door steps.

Mrs. Ugwuanyi gave the assurance during the maiden visit of Nigeria’s first lady to Enugu State on a one-day health screening initiative programme held at Queens Secondary School where over 2,000 women from various locations in the South-East geopolitical zone who thronged the venue to access free blood sugar and blood pressure tests,kidney functioning and cervical cancer tests,eye and dental checks as well as diabetes tests among others.

“Your prompt response to the cries and groaning of widows and the less privileged in the state has led to promotion of better health and prevention of impending health crises in the state. My office has perfected plans to replicate the screening exercise in the 17 local government areas of the state”said Mrs. Ugwuanyi.

Mrs. Ebere Agu,who hails from Isi-Uzo Local Government Area where primary health care services have ebbed following inattention from past administrations in Enugu State expressed delight at the assurance from Mrs. Ugwuanyi adding that the measure will in no small way,wipe the tears she by the women in their bid to access basic health care in rural communities.

“I am convinced that the governor’s wife will make good her promise to extend the screening exercise to the local government areas to compliment the activities of the primary health care centers. The screening programme should rather than being periodic, metamorphose to a standing practice to assist the rural poor access medicare.

“As it is now, most women and children are said to pass on following late detection of most of these ailments which are curable if well managed abinito. Relevant  corporate organizations in the state should key into  this gesture and ensure that the lofty idea is sustained. Infact, companies,individuals and  philanthropic Nigerians should rally support towards the sustained actualization of this project which touches on the fundamental well-being of the people.”
