National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC weekend took its fight against fake drugs to the Lagos International Trade Fair, warning producers of unregistered products to stay away from the fair or face its wrath.
In a statement signed by the Agency’s Chief Public Relation Officer, Mrs. Christina Obiazikwor, the Agency also maintained that it would ensure that no unregistered product is sold at the Fair.
Obiazikwor further stated that their participation in the Fair was also to intimate organisers, manufacturers, marketers, importers, exporters of food, drug and other regulated products with the Agency’s regulatory functions as well as create awareness on its registration processes for regulated products.
She disclosed that already the Agency has deployed its cutting edge technology (Truscan equipment, SMS messaging, Mini lab) to instantly determine the status of regulated products being exhibited at the Lagos fair.
“NAFDAC presence will therefore impact on the general fair activities, particularly the members of the public who will be accessing the various exhibitions stands to shop for their families. In addition, NAFDAC participation will create avenue for value exchange in terms of feedback and interaction with manufacturers and marketers of regulated products.
“The NAFDAC small business support desk is visibly present at the fair and we therefore call on intending local manufacturers to utilize this opportunity and get information on the registration of their products.
NAFDAC will therefore use the opportunity to further advance course of fighting fake regulated products and entrenching the culture of product wholesomeness in the country,” she added.
