According to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, the suspects were arrested after a team of policemen from Festac Divisional Headquarters received a tip-off that a notorious syndicate of pipeline vandals was siphoning products from NNPC pipelines.

Owoseni added that the police recovered a Mack tanker, 7,500 litres of petroleum products, a pumping machine and one long black hose from the suspects.

According to the 40-year-old truck driver, Nurudeen Rafiu, “I am from Oyo State in Ibadan. I was called by one Mr. Eeleyede on Saturday to come to Mile 2 and transfer goods into a bus going to Ijebu-Ode

“He told me that a bus carrying PMS got spoilt at Festac town and that I should come and work on it.”

He said it was while they were about to transfer the product that police arrested them, adding that he neither vandalized any pipeline nor was aware that the product was stolen.
