Mopa (Kogi) – Mr Jacob Mejedi, the Oba of Orokere in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi, on Friday, expressed satisfaction with the arrangements put in place by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the success of Saturday’s Governorship election in the state.
The traditional ruler made the commendation in an in the area.
He said that with the arrangement put in place by INEC and security agencies, the election would be free, fair and credible.
The monarch commended the people of the area for their peaceful conduct so far and urged them to continue to maintain the peace before, during and after the election.
“I am optimistic that this election will be the most peaceful election in the history of elections in Nigeria,” he said.
Oba Mejedi called on youths in the state to shun thuggery and unlawful acts that could disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election.
He also urged politicians and their supporters in the area to pursue their ambitions peacefully.
“The ambition of politicians is not worth dying for irrespective of their promises, status or position in the society.
“We must abstain from all forms of violence by respecting ourselves and other to ensure peace,” the traditional ruler admonished.
Mr Peter Bolaji, an opinion leader in the area, also expressed optimism that the election would be credible and peaceful ‘’because President Muhammadu Buhari has created a level playing field for all the parties and their candidates’’.
Bolaji urged all the stakeholders in the election to ensure that peace and unity to reign in the state.
Mr Shola Adesoji, a civil servant, however, advised the contestants not to induce eligible voters but rather to sell their manifesto.
Meanwhile, in a separate interview on Friday in Kabba, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the area, Mr Alfred Bello, urged eligible voters in the area to avoid acts capable of undermining the peace before, during and after the election.
