The Managing Director/CEO of May & Baker Nigeria Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okafor, has been honoured with the fellowship of the Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy (FNAPharm). He was inducted on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 along with 21 others as the second set of Nigerians to bag this elite award.
With the award, Okafor now holds the two most prestigious fellowship awards of the pharmacy profession in Nigeria as he was also in 2006 honoured with the fellowship of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, (FPSN).
Okafor studied Pharmacy at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) and graduated in 1983 with a second class Honours (upper division). He went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Marketing from the Enugu State University of Technology in 1998 and was in the year 2000 AMP class of the Lagos Business School.
He commenced his career as a medical representative in May & Baker in 1985 putting up superlative performance that made him rise very rapidly in the company. On the 11th of June 2003, he was appointed to the Board of May & Baker Nigeria Plc as Executive Director, Sales & Marketing. In this capacity, he restructured the local Pharmaceutical business into what remains today the biggest contributor to the company’s revenue and profit achievements.
Again in January 2006, he was appointed the Chief Operating Officer with the responsibility of championing the company’s diversification into the foods business.
To cap his long and meritorious contributions to the success of the company, he was on February 1, 2011 named the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the company. As managing director, Mr. Okafor has led May & Baker to the enviable position of a world class pharmaceutical manufacturing company evidenced by the certification of its facility for current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 2014.
