Dutse — The Federal Government is set to revive fishing and agricultural activities at the Chad Basin area of Borno and Adamawa states which was devastated by Boko Haram Insurgents.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Water Resources and Rural development, Sulaiman Adamu, in while responding questions from newsmen at Government House, Dutse, Jigawa State, on Sunday night.
Adamu, who said he was in Dutse to attend the All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders meeting, stressed that since peace had returned to the embattled North-East, President Muhammadu Buhari directed him to do everything possible to revive fishing and farming activities in the area, so that youth could be employed.
According to him, one reason that expanded the activities of insurgency in the North Eastern states is the joblessness of youths in the the region.
He further disclosed that the Federal Government collaborated with Chad, Cameroon and Central African Republic to source water from Central Africa to Chad River to boost agricultural activities and fishing business.
He disclosed that his ministry would soon commence rehabilitation works on dams and earth dams across the country to actualize the paradigm shift from oil to agriculture , with a view to reducing over dependence on petroleum
