Reduce judgement debts against the state, Lagos AG tasks law officers

By Abdulwahab Abdulah & Jane Echewodo

The new Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem has tasked the state legal officers to be proactive to reduce financial burden arising from litigations brought against the state.

In his maiden meeting with the officers of the ministry of justice as well as law officers in other ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), he gave them marching order to ensure prompt responses to State matters at all times in order to perform more effectively.

Kazeem also charged the law officers in the MDAs to ensure that they liaise with the ministry of justice and as well respond to requests made on state matters “within time in order to portray, promote and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the ministry.”

He noted that the ministry of justice being a professional ministry is charged with various responsibilities which include rendering legal and advisory services to other ministries, MDAs and must at all times ensure prompt responses to the matters.

The AG also reiterated the fact that if lawyers were given all necessary information, it is meant to keep them abreast of such matters and given necessary documents to assist in their cases.

He said there was possibility of having more judgements delivered in favour of the State thereby reducing the financial burden on the State Government.
