Physical fitness of officers, key element in combating terrorism – CNS

Abuja – The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Adm. Ibok-Ete Ibas, on Saturday said that the physical fitness of officers was a key element in combating terrorism and oil theft in the country.

Ibas, represented by the Chief of Naval Administration, Rear Adm. Jonathan Ango, stated this while addressing newsmen at the end of the 3rd Quarterly Route March in Abuja.

“ For any personnel to work in the field in pursuit of any terrorist or oil theft, his physical fitness is a key element to be considered, “ Ibas said.

He said the essence of the exercise was to keep officers and men of the Nigerian Navy physically fit with a view to boosting their morale.

According to him, the route march is a quarterly administrative procedure to ensure that personnel are physically fit.

“ This quarterly route march gives us a general idea of the overall physical fitness of our men for jobs that we intend to do.

“ In the Nigerian Navy, we have this logo that says “ onward together; ’’ so we have to work together as a team to promote the service to an enviable height, ” he said.

Ibas added that the route march was a `kind of show of force` aimed at enhancing public confidence in the strength and readiness of the Navy to discharge its responsibility effectively.
