BENIN—GOVERNOR Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State, yesterday, said the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, scheme still remained a major beacon of hope for the nation’s unity and development.
The governor, who stated this during the passing out parade of the 2,476 Batch C NYSC members, posted to the state, said the NYSC scheme had continued to bring “our young men and women across the country together despite their different religious and ethnic backgrounds.”
Represented by the Commissioner for Education in the state, Mr. Gideon Obhakian, the governor said: “The year must have been exciting and equally challenging to those of you who strived to imprint your names in the proverbial sands of time by initiating laudable programmes that have direct bearing on the grassroots.”
Meanwhile, a total of 1,800 batch C NYSC, members, yesterday passed out of the service in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State
Addressing the outgoing corps members, at a ceremony held at the Armed Forces Remembrance Arcade in Yenagoa, Governor Seriake Dickson, represented by the state Commissioner for Education, Mr Dein Binadoumene, urged them to see the NYSC as a scheme aimed at expanding the frontiers of development to the nooks and crannies of the nation.
