The newest addition into the Nigerian Newspaper market, The Authority Newspapers yesterday announced its official roll out as daily newspaper in Nigeria.
Announcing this at the company’s headquarters in Abuja, the Managing Director of The Authority Newspapers Mr. Madu Onuorah told the media that the newspaper will commence publication in three titles: The Authority Daily, The Authority Saturday and The Authority Sunday.
The newspaper had since last Thursday, 15th October, 2015, test rune the daily publications and at the same time made its debut on newsstands across the country.
It is published by Authority Media and Publications Limited and prides itself as a seeker of truth and justice.
‘‘The Authority believes in one Nigeria built on justice. It shall work to protect the nation’s democracy and democratic principles, propagate good governance and rule of law, while pursuing quality and excellence in the conduct of its affairs.
In the area of journalism practice, Onurah said the newspaper shall focus on reporting the voiceless, the under-reported segment of the society by the mainstream media and shall strive to protect the interest of all groups.
‘‘In The Authority, we will aim to reconsider our roles as traditional gatekeepers of news and information. This is because as people we are able to get information on our own and disseminate same using social media platforms, part of our job now will be to interject into their flow to add value to that flow.
‘‘We must now conform facts and add context to the history in a hurry, which is the news circle. We will also aim to enrich the news cycle by asking the right questions that ought to be answered. Our long term goal must be to reinvent ourselves in the context of our world, the developments and the opportunity it offers,’’ Onuorah assured.
The Authority is published by Dr. Patrick Ubah, the Chairman of Capital Oil and Labour Party Governorship candidate in the Anambra State governorship election in 2014.
The newspaper is however, managed by Mr. Madu Onuorah as managing director; Mr. Joe Nwankwo and Chuks Akunnna as executive directors respectively.
