I7 civilian, scores of insurgents killed in Borno attack

…As terrorists invade Geidam in search of food

The troops of 7 Division, Nigerian Army, have killed scores of Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to attack Gubio town, the headquarters of Gubio local government area of Borno State.

This came as residents of Geidam town in Yobe State said the motive of the Boko Haram militants for evasion of the town late Wednesday  could be attributed to search for food and other necessities.

A resident of the town, Mallam Ibrahim Gubio, told Vanguard on phone that the insurgents who came in two Hilux vehicle threw some explosive on some houses, killing seven civilians.

He said: “The insurgent came at about 4:45 am  on Wednesday and start throwing explosives on houses killing two civilians. The military deployed to the town swiftly responded on time killing all the terrorists, while their two Hilux vehicles, rifles and ammunitions were recovered.”

A soldier in the town who did not want his name in print, told Vanguard that scores of the insurgents were killed, as their troops repelled an attempted attack on the town.

He said: “Yes, there was an attempted attack on Gubio this morning but our troops successfully repelled the attack where none of the insurgents escaped, as we killed all of them, while two Hilux vehicles, rifles and ammunitions were recovered.”

In a related development, sources said a group of insurgents have concluded arrangement to wreak fresh havoc in Maiduguri, the state capital, with security formations being their main target.

A security source said the military had already received an intelligence report on the plan of some insurgents to attack some places in Maiduguri.

He added that all the security apparati had been put on alert to confront any terrorists’ invasion of Maiduguri and its environs.

Residents of Geidam in Yobe State said yesterday the motive of the Boko Haram militants’ was due to their search for food and other necessities.

Gaidam is 180km north of Damaturu, the state capital, that came under attack  on Wednesday  as suspected members of Boko Haram attacked the town around  5:00pm, an operation that lasted  till 9:00pm
