Glo Premier League: Title race still tight – Ikhana

Enyimba head coach Kadiri Ikhana has refused to be carried away with his team’s five-point lead in this season’s Glo Premier League.

Ikhana has said that “the race for the title remains very tight” despite guiding his men to a five-point lead at the top of the pile with five rounds of matches to conclude the campaign.

The Enyimba trainer believes that their last five matches will determine if they become champions for a record seventh time.

“To be honest the race for the title remains very tight. Yes, we have a five-point lead at the top but there are still five matches to go, and other teams are in the race too. You know it is always difficult when we near the end of the season as it is now because even the struggling teams will not be afraid to play their all.

“Yes we are in the driving seat but the title has not been won, and we know that and will not let down our guard just yet because we still have five tough games to play,” Ikhana said.

The Peoples Elephant claimed their 17th win of the season on Sunday when they defeated 3SC 2-1 through goals from Musa Najare and Chinedu Udoji, sandwiched by Ibrahim Ajani’s goal for the Ibadan club.

The two-time Caf Champions League winners top the Nigerian league standings with 61 points but have the chasing pack of Wolves, Wikki Tourists, Giwa FC and Sunshine Stars in that order hot on their heels.
