Residents of Enugu have hailed Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s development initiatives and his firm commitment to the well-being of the people of the state through his people-oriented programmes and policies.
Some residents who spoke on the matter expressed delight over the manner in which the governor has been piloting the affairs of the state, describing him as a visionary governor with a human face.
They commended the governor for his quick response towards the maintenance of some major roads in Enugu metropolis which have been in bad state due to potholes, adding that it was an indication that he is sensitive to the plight of the people.
The residents said that the governor’s vision to repair the roads which were constructed during the past administration also showed that he was committed to the principle of seamless continuity and consolidation which he had promised the people of the state.
This came as the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture(ECCIMA) commended the governor for his timely intervention in suspending the collection of fines for traffic offences in Enugu metropolis for a period of one month.
The body through its Director General, Emeka Okereke, noted that the governor’s compassionate approach towards addressing the issue of exorbitant fines for traffic offenders has “endeared him to the people of the state” and will pave the way for an enhanced investment and business growth in the state.
It urged the State Government to use the period of the suspension to adequately review the operations of the traffic regulatory agencies with a view to streamlining their activities and come up with a more civil approach and reasonable fines that would not incur undue hardship to the offenders.
Speaking on the governor’s development programmes, one of the residents of New Haven, Engr. Mike Uche Obi said that the governor has distinguished himself creditably and discharged his responsibilities with utmost sense of vision and decorum borne out of his passion for good governance and the well-being of the people. He added that Enugu people have not had it so good in terms of policy direction and compassionate leadership style which places the interest of the people first.
A resident from Trans Ekulu, Enugu, Mr. Emmanuel Nweke described the suspension of fines for traffic offences as a welcome development which will avail road users the opportunity to learn more on traffic rules and regulations for an accident-free transportation in the state.
He maintained that there is apt need to enforce traffic laws in the state in view of the dangers associated with the violation of the laws, adding that what the governor has done was to give the people a fair deal and sense of belonging in his strive to enforce discipline in the transport industry.
“His Excellency has put up an impressive performance since he was sworn in as the governor of Enugu State. He started well with the people who voted him into office and has taken their interest into cognizance in running the affairs of the state. I am glad that he has kept his promise not to take the people for granted “, Nweke said.
