WARRI—Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has said the remodeled agency would not achieve the desired change unless oil communities embraced attitudinal change towards delivery and maintenance of projects in their areas.
The agency’s Executive Director, Projects, Mr. Phillip Gbason, stated this in Warri, yesterday, when he hosted Warri North leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who paid a courtesy call to his office.
Gbason said: “The new DESOPADEC is already perfecting a sustainable development plan which supports a participatory needs assessment in which the communities determine what they want rather than projects being forced on them to avoid misplaced projects.
“However, the change value in that policy will amount to nothing in an atmosphere where communities see public infrastructures as government property. The new order is that communities must be receptive to projects delivery and take ownership upon completion because the projects are for their own good.”
