Contractors, transport firm clash over alleged N120m debt

By Oboh Agbonkhese

Aggrieved local contractors of the Niger Benue Transport Company, NBTC, located in Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, have alleged that the company had refused to pay them for jobs executed.

Speaking on behalf of the contractors, Chairman, NBTC Contractors Union, Chief Amos Agboje, condemned the action of the new management of the company, which they accused of being insensitive to the plight of the contractors.

He said the local contractors, numbering over 30, were being owed various sums amounting to N120 million since 2014, calling on the state government to prevail on the company to clear the outstanding contract debts.

Contacted on phone for his comments on the issue, NBTC’s Managing Director, Prince Godwin Ogbon, responded with a text message: “Sorry, I can’t talk right now.”

At press time, he still had not picked calls or replied messages to his mobile on the matter.
