By Rotimi Ojomoyela

Ado-Ekiti—Founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD, Aare Afe Babalola, has appealed to the Federal Government to allow private universities benefit from Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND.

Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the Association of Pro-Chancelors of Private Universities, in Nigeria, APPNU, which held in ABUAD, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Aare Babalola described the exclusion of the category of universities from the  beneficiaries list of TETFUND as unjust.

The legal luminary said that TETFUND was a levy on industrial establishments owned by private individuals as a form of their own contribution to educational advancement in the country.

He however, lamented that the Federal Government had cornered the fund for the sole benefit of  government-owned Institutions.

He urged the federal government to amend Section 7(1) of the TETFUND Act which excluded private tertiary institutions, including universities from the benefitting from the fund, saying private educational institutions contribute as much to the advancement of education in the country as government-owned ones.
