Lagos—An 86-year-old man, Ebenize Okpara, and two others, were yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court over alleged burglary and stealing of properties worth N1.5 million.
The other defendants, including Joseph Akuwugwu, 38; and Kenneth Ukaegbu, 33, are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy burglary and stealing preferred against them by the police.
The defendants, who are security guards, reside at 10, Owurin Ikotun, Ijegun, 6 Okerin Street, Oworo and 13, Femi Pears, Victoria Island respectively.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Esther Adesulu, told the court that the defendants and others still at large, committed the alleged offences between August 28 and 29, 2015.
She said the incident took place at about10:55pm at 9, Bourdillon road, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Adesulu informed the court that the defendants broke and entered the residence of one Ademola Edu and stole his electronics and phones worth the sum above.
She alleged that the defendants stole the following, a Samsung 3D Flat Screen 55 inches television valued at N650,000, LG 47 inches valued at N70,000, Ipad, valued N65,000, LG 47 inches flat screen television worth N220,000, two Ipad phones valued N70,000 each and one Ipod worth N65,000, all belonging to the complaint.
According to the prosecutor, the offences committed are punishable under sections 409, 285 (1) and 305 (c) of the criminal law of Lagos state 2011.
However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Consequently Magistrate F. F George granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The matter was further adjourned till October 22 for mention.
