Michael and Cecilia Ibru University, Agbarha-Otor, Delta State, has been formerly opened with officials of Delta State Government, Nigerian and foreign academicians, legal luminaries, politicians, civil servants, parents and potential students in attendance.
Notable academicians associated with the university are the Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Ayo Banjo; the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Prof. Onigu Otite; Pro-Chancellor, Joop Berkout; the Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Uvie Tobore Igun.
Delta State Government delegation was led by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Festus Ovie Agas, and Joyce Overah, the Commissioner for Science and Technology.
Co-founder of the university, Dr. Cecilia Ibru, while speaking at the event, said theuniversity, was established to reduce poverty by raising well rounded graduates who would be builders of any society in which they find themselves.
She said: “The focus of the university will be on well rounded development of the individual member of the university community without discrimination on the basis of gender, ethnicity or religion.”
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the pledge by the institution to give scholarships to students from Delta State, while the state government is expected to match the same number offered by the higher institution.
The international university boasts of facilities that are world class. All teaching and learning is E-based with solid linkages and exchange programmes for staff and students with universities in Europe, and North America. Mrs. Ibru assured the large crowd of dignitaries that the university will always be remembered as a place where excellence and godliness will be preached and practiced by all students.
