The 2015 edition of the Aspire Football Dreams project in Nigeria has kicked off in Lagos with 50 kid footballers in attendance.
The children who were presented to the media in Lagos yesterday were selected from all over the federation from the over 700 that attended the preliminary programme held in the 36 states of the federation and Abuja.
Out of the fifty, three to five will be selected to go to the famous Aspire Academy in Qatar.
Speaking at the media briefing yesterday, Director, Aspire Football Dreams (Nigeria), Sam Ahmedu, a retired Colonel said, “the project provides participants a platform of developing their skills and learning the rudiments of the game in a proper way from their infancy.”
He disclosed that similar projects were also being organised in countries like Senegal, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Morocco, South Africa among others.
He recalled with pride that some Nigerian players who passed through the project in the past have played for either the Golden Eaglets or Flying Eagles.
“So far, over 30 youngsters from Nigeria have benefited from this project and some have gone ahead to play for the various youth teams.
Presently, Funsho Bamigboye, an Aspire Academy player discovered through this project is with the U-17 team for the World Cup in Chile.”
