President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) Dr Daniel Igali who regained freedom on Tuesday after an 8 hour detention by Congolese immigration officials at the Brazzaville International Airport has said that he was back in the saddle to lead his wrestlers to conquer.
Africa at the African Games in Congo Brazzaville.
He described his ordeal in the hands of the Congolese immigration officials as malicious, wicked and dehumanising. “I can’t imagine myself, an Olympian, a Nigerian lawmaker and President of a sports federation in Nigeria to have gone through such a wicked experience in a country hosting an important event such as the African Games.”
Igali wondered why countries hosting such major events would not educate their officials on protocol.
“It was an unfortunate incident, perpetrated by overzealous and wicked immigration personnel. I have put it behind me.
“I just hope such nonsense is not visited on other Nigerians.”
Happy that he has regained freedom, Igali said, “my wrestlers have started competing and I’ve taken my position to guide them.
“I am here to motivate them to win medals to brighten our chances at the medals table. God willing we shall not disappoint Nigerians.”
