ABAKALIKI—EBONYI State police command, yesterday, said it had arrested eight suspects in connection with cult activities, armed robbery and murder in the state.

Briefing newsmen at the Command headquarters in Abakaliki, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chris Anyanwu stated that a gang of four young men alleged to be members of Supreme Vikings Fraternity (an outlawed secret cult group) led by one Ogbule Justice popularly known as “Stone Cold” were smashed by Command.

According to him, through a well co-coordinated and intelligence-led operation, the arrow head of the group alongside other members were nabbed at Timaya Bush Bar, Nkaliki in Abakaliki Local Government Area of the state.

He noted that the suspected cultists were rounded up while they were conducting initiation for some newly conscripted members in the area.

“On sighting the police, they opened fire and scampered for safety; after a hot chase, the trios were arrested while a few others escaped.

“Among those arrested was Abuchi Mbuta Joseph who sustained bullet injuries and later gave up the ghost while being taken to the hospital.

Items recovered from them include: one double-barreled locally made pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, among others.
