ABUJA—The Nigerian Academy of Education, NAE, weekend, attributed the inability of the academia to carry out successful academic research work to poor funding of the education sector in the country.

Consequently, the academic community called on President Muhammadu Buhari to critically look into the country’s education system with a view to improving on its standard.

President of NAE, Prof. Uduogie Ivowi said there were strong recommendations that needed to be looked into to raise the dwindling standard of education in the country.

Ivowi, at the 30th Anniversary and 19th Annual Seminar of NAE in Abuja, noted that although there were several challenges confronting the system ranging from attitude of teachers to funding among others, if the facilities were provided, the standard of education would definitely improve.

“We need funds, other academy in the world are funded by government, they give the grant, as for Nigeria, no grant has been given to us so, finance is the major problem. I want to use this medium to correct the impression, many people hold that standard of education is falling, it has not fallen at all instead, standard of education has been growing.
