Vanguard Motoring, FirstBank win Toyota award

Vanguard Motoring has been adjudged the best motoring page at a recent award by Toyota Nigeria Limited. Consequently, Vanguard Motoring Editor, Mr. Theodore Opara, went home with the Motoring Journalists award for 2015 and a star prize Samsung Galaxy S6 phone.

Announcing the award at a well attended Toyota Nigeria 2015 ceremony, the Managing Director of Toyota Nigeria Limited, Mr. Kunle Ade Ojo, said it is the tradition of the company to reward excellence and Vanguard Motoring had stood out since the commencement of the award 11 years ago.

Also rewarded during the eventheld at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos, were Mr. Mike Ochoma of Business Day newspaper and Rasheed Bisiriyu, who emerged first and second runners- up, respectively. Both went home with lower versions of Samsung Galaxy phones.

The Toyota Award started in 2005 with the aim of rewarding customers and journalists who stood out in their different categories. So far, Vanguard Motoring has dominated the award by winning it for more than six times.

In the customer category, First Bank Nigeria Plc emerged the Customer of the Year with a star prize of a brand new Toyota Avenza, while the Department of Petroleum Resources and Access Bank emerged first and second runners-up with a cash prize of N2 million and N1.5 million, respectively.

In his remark, Ade-Ojo noted that Toyota’s philosophy still remains ‘customer first’ which has helped them to retain the number one position for over a decade in Nigeria. He said: “The philosophy of customer first is key to us and we are taking the necessary steps to ensure that you enjoy your Toyota in Nigeria because your satisfaction is important to us.’’ According to him, irrespective of last year’s challenging atmosphere, Toyota still retained the number one position in the country.
