Uneasy calm now reigns in all the 657 autonomous communities in Imo State, following the planned probe of the funds allegedly given to the community government councils, CGCs, for the execution of projects.
Vanguard investigations revealed that Governor Rochas Okorocha, who was irked by continued reports of non-existence of projects in the autonomous communities, has opted to probe the accounts of the CGCs.
A dependable government source revealed that the team of experts charged with the responsibility of probing the CGC accounts will commence work without delay.
“The experts will get to all the CGCs in the state and look at their income, expenditure and projects carried out, if any. It is expected that they ascertain the true position of things at that level,” the official told Vanguard.
Apart from probing the monies sent to the CGCs, government was spoiling for a serious battle with anybody, including royal fathers, found to have embezzled the funds.
Vanguard recalls that Governor Okorocha announced in the early weeks of his administration that he was doling out N1 million to each autonomous community.
He also introduced the palm revolution and allegedly gave 150 palm seedlings and N300,000 to each of the autonomous communities to enable them develop their palm plantations.
