Jos—A peaceful rally at Wase, yesterday, turned violent leaving about six people injured as Special Task Force, STF, officers stationed in the town descended on women and school children, who gathered to participate in the rally, with whips.
The rally was intended to draw attention to the conflicts at Wase. The procession was scheduled to terminate at Wase Divisional Police Headquarters.
Thirty-two participants of the said rally organised by Wase Women Development Association, WAWODA, were reportedly heading to the STF base from nearby Wase Guest House, when the soldiers descended on them.
Interim Coordinator of WAWODA, Hajia Safiya Adamu, said: “We told them we were holding this peace rally and the Sector Commander assured us of our safety. So we cannot understand why they should do this.”
