ABUJA – AS part of efforts to address the huge housing deficit in Federal capital Territory, FCT, the Kano State Government in collaboration with Urban Shelters Limited, has commissioned a N45 billion housing estate in the city. The Evergreen Residences, an integrated real estate development project, located at Durumi District in Abuja, consists of 108 housing units of four- bedrooms terraces and three-bedroom blocks of apartments.
Commissioning the project, the Governor of Kano state, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, an engineer, attributed the housing problems in the country to high rate of population growth and lack of purposeful leadership. The Governor, who is now Senator-elect, said his administration had embarked on several projects in to ensure that the people of the state enjoy the dividends of democracy.
“Towards diversifying the investment outlook of the state as well as fully explore and utilise the state’s assets in more productive and efficient manner, my government embarked on an unprecedented task of construction of three-mega cities -Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo which are today household names in Nigeria and beyond.
“The three cities consist of over 2,000 housing units with full infrastructure consisting of tarred road networks, electricity and water supply and modern city facilities that include amusement parks, shopping malls, modern sewage systems, police and fire service station, sporting and other recreational facilities which are all built at the total cost of about N45 Billion.
“Part of our rationale for investing heavily in the real estate business is that during execution the project provides our teeming populace with job and business opportunities; and on completion, it provides decent accommodation to deserving members of the society, “ he said. The Evergreen estate which was flagged off in 2013, has state-of-the-art-facilities and will provide services like 24 hours security watch, 24 hours power and water supply services by a dedicated transformer and an automatic changeover system.
“The Evergreen Residences is an integrated real estate development project undertaken by Urban Shelter Limited in collaboration with the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees. “The landscape has also been transformed from clogged cluster of buildings to a collection of homes.” The Governor said Kano State Trust Fund Trustees is getting 20 housing units within the serene environment of Evergreen Residences.
Also speaking, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Muhammed, said the project would add to housing stock in the nation’s capital. Represented by the Director of Mass Housing, Umar Jubril, the minister added that “the edifice is of world class in term of standard and it is in line with the FCT master plan.”
