OSOGBO—All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State has called on the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, to prevail on its members in Osun State to stop forthwith, the killings going on in Ile Ife and Ilase in Obokun Local Government Area of the state by people suspected to be PDP thugs.
The APC, in a statement by its state Director of Research and Publicity, Mr Kunle Oyatomi, in Osogbo, yesterday, is also appealing to security forces to be more pro-active and robust in its engagement “with suspected PDP criminals in both towns who have resorted to unprovoked violence and murder of Osun citizens simply because the PDP has been rejected by the people at last Saturday’s election.”
In a swift reaction to the allegation, a chieftain of PDP, Chief Francis Fadahunsi, denied the allegation that PDP was engaging in criminality in the state saying that hired thugs suspected to be working for APC were those that launched attack on PDP members and supporters in Ilase in Obokun Local Government Areas.
Fadahunsi stated that shortly after the thugs had attacked his members, the state government effected the arrest of his orderly, his wife’s driver and some PDP members for no just cause.
He also blamed the Police for taking side in the matter alleging that those that caused the trouble in the area were allowed to go scort free.
Fadahunsi appealed to the State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Marafa, to investigate the cause of violence and ensure that the culprits are brought to book.
Reacting to the killings in Ile-Ife and the violence allegedly orchestrated by PDP leadership in the state, the APC said that “violence and murder are crimes against humanity and society which are which are not tolerated in a democratic setting.”
