Kano — Nigeria’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Alhaji Maitama Sule, has commended President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,GEJ, for exhibiting good ‘’sportsmanship” in conceding victory to his opponent in Saturday’s presidential election.
Maitama made the remark while addressing newsmen in Kano, Wednesday.
‘’President Jonathan is a statesman rather than a politician for conceding defeat,” he said.
According to him, by his decision to concede defeat, Jonathan is above a politician.
‘’President Jonathan has proved to be above a politician, his stand was also seen as a good start for the establishment of virile democracy.
“Jonathan is not a politician, but a statesman. A politician thinks of election while a statesman thinks of the nation.
‘’By this singular action, he has laid a solid foundation for democracy to thrive,” Sule said.
“What I have been calling for has now come to reality. I have been praying for good leadership.
‘’I have seen a good leader in the present leader, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
‘’We had had elections in Nigeria but we have never had the incumbent congratulating the president-elect; he is a statesman,” he said.
He noted that Jonathan has proved to be one of the greatest leaders Nigeria has had, noting that ‘’this will surely help in having a sustained democracy.”
The former diplomat urged Buhari to ensure justice and fairness to all Nigerians irrespective of political or religious inclination.
