Nigeria’s flagbearer in the Caf Champions League, Enyimba FC have reiterated their conviction that they won’t be overwhelmed by the cold weather in Egypt as they strive to hold on to their 1-0 lead ahead of the first round, second leg tie in Alexandria on Sunday against Smouha SC.
The People’s Elephant settled for only a 1-0 win in Aba courtesy of Raphael Boumsong 65th minute header as the visitors employed tough defence tactics.
The head coach of the Aba Millionaires, Kadiri Ikhana said that they plan to travel to Alexandria on Friday in other not to suffer too much from the effect of the cold weather that may slow down their performance against Smouha.
“We will be ready for the weather and we have made plans to curtail the effect of the cold. We will be needing three full weeks to stay in Egypt to properly acclimatize to the cold but since we don’t have such time to waste in foreign land, we plan to get there late just for the match,” Ikhana said.
“We will get there on Friday and do lots of warm up and running so that the players will be fired up and the weather won’t have much effect on them.”
Enyimba are the most successful Nigerian club in the Champions League having won two titles in the competition in 2003 and 2004 both at the expense of north African club duo of Ismaila SC of Egypt and Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia.
