In recognition of the benefits of regular exercise as a way of reducing the risk of chronic illnesses, heart related diseases, diabetes, asthma, stroke among others, the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria, penultimate week held her annual health walk.
The physical exercise which was the fifth in its series kicked off from Pen Cinema, Lagos through Akilo road, Guinness roundabout then Emiloju Street and ended at Ansar Ud Deen Society Agege branch mosque was meant to maintain and increase the fitness of members of the organisation.
As early as 7am, Saturday, March 21, members of the society including interested individuals gathered at the Woman Development Center, to participate in the exercise. Other activities marking the day were health talks on wellness and life style, counseling and distribution of anti malarial drugs (Sudrex tablet) to the public.
The more than two hour health walk was awesomely as participants’ relishes in delight and fulfillment. Speaking to journalists, the Secretary, Organizing Committee for the Health Walk, Alhaja Ganiat Toluwaloju, said: “’The society organized this ‘Health walk’ annually as part of her corporate social responsibility to sensitized members and general public.
It is also premised on the needs to engaged on regular exercises and observed an healthy routine that will promote healthy lifestyle and wellness regularly as this will reduce significantly risk of having chronic illnesses such as heart related diseases, diabetes, stroke, etc”
She maintained that results of researches revealed that participants who joined walking groups experienced significant reductions in blood pressure, body fat, body mass index (BMI), resting heart rate and all factors that may reduce the risk of a number of conditions like stroke and heart disease, general body fitness as well as lower depression.
