Why Wabba, others visited DSS, Labour Ministry – Ajaero faction of NLC

By Victor Ahiuma-Young

FACTIONAL President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero, and the National Administrative Council of the Congress, NAC, have alleged that evidences were emerging that former NLC President, Abdulwaheed Omar, colluded with agencies of state to ensure the emergence of Ayuba as president at all costs against the will of majority of  workers.

The faction in a statement in Lagos, weekend, said last week’s visits of Ayuba Wabba and others to Federal Ministry of Labour and Director General of the Department of State Service, DSS, was suggestive of alleged attempt of Wabba to surrender labour movement to the government.

The statement by Segun Esan on behalf of the faction, said:   “The visit of Comrade Ayuba Wabba and his cohorts to the agencies of the state is so unfortunate.

‘’These hurried visits vindicate our position that the former president, Comrade Abdul   Omar, colluded with agencies of the state to perpetrate the fraud called election to ensure the emergence of Ayuba at all costs against the will of the majority of the Nigerian working people.

‘’After all, the Ministry of Labour is aware that the tenure of Ayuba Wabba as President of Medical and Health had ended since 2013 and could not carry out his oversight function to ensure that the constitution of the union is not violated with impunity as Wabba had done in the last two years.

“Apparently, the visit to the Director General of DSS was also a ‘thank you’ visit for the role the security agencies played during the disputed elections in Abuja.

‘’The DSS and the police unleashed dogs and policemen on horses to chase away majority of the private sector unions that were behind Ajaero.
“Such unsolicited visits to the agencies of the state are clearly suggestive of Wabba’s indebtedness to the state and his willingness to surrender the labour movement to the government.”

‘’We are concerned that such frivolous visits could give invitation or encouragement to the government or any of its agencies to interfere in the affairs of the labour movement. The Labour movement is a non-governmental organisation that owes its powers and legitimacy only to workers/members.”
