UPU remains one united family, says group

UGHELLI—An Urhobo youth group, Urhobo Youths for Socio-Economic Liberation, has claimed, contrary to press reports, the Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, remains one united family under the new leadership of Chief Tuesday Onoge.

Addressing newsmen in Isiokolo, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, the leader of the group, Ojiromu Adarighofua, insisted that there is no crisis in the UPU, claiming that what has transpired is that the old leadership was removed and replaced by a new leadership with the interests of Urhoboland at heart.

He said: “For the old leadership to have negated the spirit and letter of the Uvwiamuge Declaraton amounted to a betrayal of the Urhobo nation and the Urhobo people were within their rights to have removed the old leadership as an imminent danger to Urhobo interests under the Doctrine of Necessity. “What matters at the end of the day is who the Urhobo people will listen to as things continue to unfold. Chief Tuesday Onoge is the leader we recognize and Olorogun O’tega Emerhor is our governorship candidate.”
