Lagos—As the 2015 elections draw nearer, the Nigerian Navy, weekend expressed its readiness to discharge its duties where necessary, with a warning to miscreants to have a rethink on their excesses
As first step to achieving this mandate, it disclosed that its personnel had been undergoing training in the last one year on human rights violation, assuring that there would be no brutalization of civilians in the course of discharging its duties.
The Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Training Command ,NAVTRAC Rear Admiral Babatunde Egbedina, made this disclosure at the end of the route march by ratings and officers of the Western and Naval training commands in Lagos.
The route march, as explained by the FOC, was to repose confidence in members of the public on the preparedness of the service lateing to internal security operations.
As early as 6am, the personnel had assembled at the Nigerian Navy Ship NNS Quorra parade ground , from where the route walk began. The unusual sight of the personnel numbering over 1000, who chanted morale-inducing songs, caused a stare as residents rushed out of their houses, with expressions of surprise and fear of uncertainty on their faces. They walked as far as Ojuelegba under bridge and back again to the base.
