FOLLOWING incessant harassment of participants by the villagers of Mgbidi community during crusades, the authorities of The Lord’s Chosen Charis-matic Revival Ministries, con-veners of the famous Mgbidi annual international program-me, on Wednesday, announced plans to move the annual event to another location.
Addressing newsmen at a post-crusade briefing in Lagos, the spokesman of the ministry, Pastor Louis Chidi said the yearly threat, extortion and bullying of participants orchestrated by the Mgbidi community in Imo State has become unbearable to the ministry as participants, mostly foreigners, have become very apprehensive of the restive community youths.
According to him, the Mgbidi youths have no respect for the things of God nor appreciate the economic benefit of the annual revival pilgrimage.
Speaking painfully while recalling what happened at the last Mgbidi programme, Pastor Chidi said: “It’s very dishearten-ing that the community after all we have done for them, will continue to disrupt our annual international programme.
“Despite imprinting the town’s name in the world map, we have not only brought the presence of government and international community to the town but have also contributed immensely in all ramifications both spiritually and physically to the develop-ment of the entire community but yet we are being paid with evil.
“Every year more than one million people from all over the world converge here under the auspices of The Lord’s Chosen for personal and national prayer and yet they are made to go with wounded hearts by the villagers and their vehicles are damaged because they refuse to be extort-ed,” he explained.
Asked why the church didn’t choose to pray than relocating venue, the Chief Press Officer said: “The land was not given to the church free, it was appro-priately paid for and we have ensured our social responsibili-ties in the area of boreholes, roads etc were provided as the case may be.
“On the other hand, yearly additional financial bonuses are given to the community. Of course, we are not ignorant of the fact that the attacks were a ploy to scuttle the good thing that is coming to the community. It makes us become more comp-assionate and show there is still serious spiritual work to be done. Nevertheless relocating may be an answer to prayer made and that is why we have decided to relocate,” Chidi explained.
He maintained that the harass-ment, among other issues, have continued to be a source of concern to the ministry accord-ingly, the ministry has no other option than to relocate to the community that will appreciate them.
“We as a ministry that preaches righteousness and holiness cannot go into contention with them, our duty is to preach the gospel, and to show them love and we have not relented in these areas. Our heart desire and prayer is that they should repent and come to the knowledge of the truth,” he concluded.
