Bauchi—The Police in Bauchi State, yesterday, confirmed the killing of an armed robber and a member of a vigilante group along Bayanga Dogonruwa Road in Toro Local Government Area.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Haruna Mohammed, who confirmed the incident in a press statement, said the incident happened yesterday around 6.30pm, when a Joint Police Vigilante group on patrol along Bayanga Dogonruwa Road was ambushed by unknown gunmen suspected to be armed robbers, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.
He said one of the gunmen was killed during the exchange of fire, while a vigilante, identified as Musa Wakili, 25, of Bayanga Village in Toro Local Government died due to gunshot injuries he sustained during the encounter.
The PPRO said other members of the gang fled into the bush with bullet wounds.
According to him, investigation and intensive patrol are ongoing in the area to apprehend the fleeing robbers.
Haruna said exhibits recovered from the robbers include two AK-47 rifles, 21 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, two magazines, N7,040 and Etisalat recharge cards valued at N1,600.
He said security had been beefed up in the area, adding that neighbouring states had been put on alert in order to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.
