BENIN—MINISTER of Works, Mr Mike Onolememen, has assured Nigerians that the Benin section of the Benin-Auchi-Lokoja Road dualisation project would soon be completed.
He was in the Edo State capital, Benin City, to inspect the Diamond Interchange construction work meant to free traffic at the Enyaen By-pass flyover axis of the road.
He said that over 12km of the 47km first-phase stretch of the road between Benin and Ehor awarded by the Federal Government to Reynold Construction Company, RCC, at N35 billion had been completed.
He listed the benefits of the dualisation of the road to include reduction in travel time and on-going drainage work around the Court of Appeal area in Benin, which he said will solve the perennial flooding of the area.
He said: “This is one of the many things Mr. President has brought to Edo State. He has brought about N11 billion to fund tertiary education in Edo State, an Almajiri school is being built in Etsako.”
The minister explained that Edo State was yet to access N1.7 billion Universal Basic Education Fund provided by the Federal Government for funding primary schools in the country because of the state’s inability to pay its counterpart component of the fund.
