Keshi, Shorunmu sad over Agbonavbare’s death

Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi and his assistant, Ike Shorunmu have expressed shock over the death of their former national teammate, Wilfried Agbonavbare, who succumbed to cancer on Tuesday in a Spanish hospital.

“Wilfred is dead? No! This is a bitter pill to swallow,” Keshi said, on hearing the sad news. “What do I say about him now? I still remember our time together as teammates while at NNB many years back. Wilfred was one goalkeeper who was good at what he did.”

Keshi also recounted Agbonavbare’s role in helping Nigeria qualify for its maiden FIFA World Cup tournament in 1994.

And Shorunmu, who was a teammate to the ‘Flying Cat’, as Agbonavbare was fondly called, on several occasions for Nigeria, said, “it is still a shock to me that Willy is gone. I didn’t believe it when I first heard.’
