Inec recovers 7,812 snatched Pvcs in Akwa Ibom

By Tom Moses

UYO—Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr. Austin Okojie, has implored those who snatched the commission’s Permanent Voter’s Cards, PVCs, to return them, adding that 7,812 of the 10,000 cards had been recovered by the police.

He also assured that the commission would organize what would be the most credible election in the history of Nigeria.

He made the appeal yesterday, when the leadership of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, including the governorship candidate of the party, Obong Umana Umana, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Uyo.

According to Okojie, over 10,000 PVCs were recently snatched from INEC staff by thugs in Uruan Local Government Area.

He said 7,812 of the cards had, however, been recovered by the police.

He added that over 3,000 of the cards were yet to be recovered.

He also informed that the commission had so far distributed 1,468,780 PVCs, representing 91.4 percent, and encouraged all registered voters, yet to get their cards, to go to their respective political wards from next Monday to collect theirs.

To check late arrival of election materials at polling units and the attendant usurpation of such challenges by fraudulent politicians to rig elections, Okojie said election materials would be dispatched to all polling units 24 hours before the commencement of accreditation and other electioneering processes.
