Dancing can generate employment for Nigerian youths — Artiste

Mr Tony Offiong, the Chief Executive Officer, JIIMBAY Dance Company, Lagos, has said that dancing could generate employment for the nation’s youths if well structured.

Offiong told newsmen in Lagos that government and corporate organisations could sponsor dance competitions among youths as being done in other countries.

He said that if dancing was taken seriously in Nigeria, the youths would be able to earn their living from it.

“If we allow dance to take its pride of place in the country and make it a source of income, like other countries do, companies and individuals will use our dancers and dump them,’’ he said.

The director said that most people erroneously viewed dance as an easy profession.

He said dancing had its own clout and language, adding that it was profession on its own.

“Dancing needs vigorous energy and the youths need where to channel their energy to keep them busy

“If all tiers of government and associations come together to help make dancing work, it will serve as a means of employment for the youths,” he said.
