World police chiefs stress need for police community relations

THE assembly of chiefs of police serving and retired that converged at the recent 121st Annual International Association Of Chiefs Of Police Conference (IACP) in Orlando, Florida, USA, have stressed the need for re-examination of the important issue of police community relations, drawing instances on what obtains in their various countries.

In his key message at the conference, titled Strengthening Police – Community Relations, IACP President, Mr. Yousry Zakhary, stated that events have shown a spotlight on law enforcement agencies, officers and the tactics and equipment that are being employed to protect the communities, leading to event whereby many observers and commentators, as well as ordinary citizens have continued to raise important questions about the state of police – community relations.
