Rainstorm wreaks havoc in Delta community

BURUTU—RAINSTORM has destroyed several homes and rendered hundreds of residents homeless at Okpokunu community in Burutu Local Government Area, Delta State.

Chairman of the council, Mr. Ebikeme Clark, visited the community after the disaster to assess the extent of damage.

While the community, counted its losses, a leader, Mr. Wandoko Ekiokeyei, called on the federal, state and local governments to come to the assistance of the affected people.

Also destroyed by rainstorm were farmlands, residential houses, transformer, streetlights, church buildings, police station and primary schools.

He told Clark that the devastating rainstorm occurred at about 5.00 pm  and destroyed property worth thousands of naira.

The council chairman, who also visited the paramount ruler of Siembiri Kingdom, HRM Charles Ayemi-Botu, promised that the council would look into how the victims would be assisted and @take their message to the appropriate quarters, as the council alone can not shoulder the cost of replacing the damaged property.”

Present during the visit was the member representing Burutu North in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Dan Yingi.
